Wedding Booked

Friday, October 10th, 2008

After a lot of deliberation, viewing of websites and emails back and forth to America we’ve chosen the Little Church of the West as the venue for our wedding.

It will be a very plain affair - we’ve watched the sample service on their website so we know what to expect - about a 6 minute wedding. One reviewer said their guests had travelled 3000 miles to see their wedding but had turned up 8 minutes late and missed the whole thing. I thought that was quite amusing.

The Little Church has mixed reviews, but anywhere that performs 30-odd weddings a day is bound to make mistakes from time to time, and to be honest, their website was really the only one that offered clear information. All the others were very vague about what you actually got for your money and I didn’t want to phone them and suffer the hard sell. Besides it has lots of history, or at least as much history as you can muster in 60 years. It’s been moved 3 times - how many other churches have toured the Las Vegas strip?

We weren’t tempted by an Elvis wedding, but Mark is toying with the idea of turning up in chaps and a stetson (I think he’s kidding but I’m not 100% sure).

We’ve ordered the 30 days of webcam viewing and a couple of DVDs so everyone who wants to see us get hitched can, safe in the knowledge that they’ll only have to sit through a few minutes of ceremony.

I’ve asked my sister to give me away. She says she’ll cry so it’s a good job they’ve invented waterproof mascara.

Honeymoon booked!!

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

I’m so excited I can’t concentrate. Last night Mark and I booked our honeymoon in Vegas. We’re taking a direct flight from Manchester to Vegas and then staying in the Bellagio for 5 nights, in the Flamingo for 3 nights and finally Caesars Palace for 3 nights before flying home.

We’ve pushed the boat out and ordered a lake view room in the Bellagio so we can watch the fountain show from our room - it’s meant to be truly spectacular. We’ve also order Go rooms in the Flamingo because all the reviews on TripAdvisor say this is the way to go. We’ve got the ordinary Classic rooms in Caesars Palace but from what I hear they are anything but basic so it should be good.

Now we’ve got to choose a venue for the wedding and get that booked so that we can confirm the dates to everyone. I’ve been investigating chapels but Mark and I need to sit down and decide exactly what we want.

After that we’ve got the fun of planning exactly what we’re going to DO on honeymoon - where shall we visit, what shall we do? Obviously we’re gonna go on a tour of the Grand Canyon - but which tour? There’s so many to choose from. And which show(s)?

The only worry is how to pay for it, but I’m working LOADS of overtime so that will help!!

95% certain

We’re gonna go for it! Mark and I are getting married in Las Vegas and I’m fairly certain it’s going to be next Easter. It’s either next Easter or next July because of the way our holidays fall, and I think I’d melt if I went to Vegas in the summer!

We’ve got to book some flights first. And then choose a couple or three hotels (4* and above only - it’s our honeymoon after all and a once in a lifetime trip!). And then we have to choose a date for the big event itself. And then we have to choose a chapel. And then a venue for the reception. And then we have to invite people (although I can’t see many folk joining us across the pond). And then we have to choose all the day trips, tours and shows for the rest of our honeymoon. It’s all REALLY exciting! But, coming back down to earth with a bump - we’ve got to solve one huge problem - how to pay for it all!!!

Why is there always a catch??
