Heaton Park, Manchester

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

Since it was such lovely weather today we went out for a bit of a walk in the sunshine.  Mark suggested that we should go to Heaton Park.  I had always just assumed that it was a big load of fields with some woods and lots of druggies laying around or intimidating people.  Turns out I was wrong.  I can’t believe I’ve never been! It’s lovely, if a little run down.

Wiltshire Holiday Webpages

Sunday, March 18th, 2007

At last! It’s only taken me 10 months but I’ve finally finished my webpages on our holiday to Wiltshire last May.  We had a brilliant time visiting Avebury, Stonehenge, Salisbury, Longleat Safari Park and Lacock Abbey and village.  I’ve only got the pages on the holidays to Wales and Prague to finish now (well start actually) before we go off to Norfolk in a few weeks.  I can’t see that happening really.  Anyway, if you’re vaguely interested you can see our holiday snaps at my Wiltshire Holiday pages.

Scarborough

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

For our Saturday activity it was a choice between a day trip to York or Scarborough.  Mark fancied having a nosey at Robin Hood’s Bay which is only a few miles from Whitby on the way to Scarborough, so Scarborough it was.

Whitby

Saturday, February 17th, 2007

For Thursday and Friday of our half term break we decided to visit Whitby.  Mark fancied some bracing sea air and decent fish and chips.

Going Underground

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

Some of Mark’s ancestors must have been miners, or perhaps it’s his caveman instincts coming out, but he seems to want to go down every hole in Wales (steady on).  Last year we visited the National Show Caves (Dan Yr Ogof), the Dolaucothi Gold Mines, the Big Pit National Coal Museum, Electric Mountain at Llanberis, the Sygun Copper Mine near Beddgelert and finally the cave underneath Carreg Cennan Castle near Llandeilo. We also visited the Blue John Cavern in Derbyshire as well.

This year’s first underground excursion took us to the Llechwedd Slate Caverns in Blaenau Ffestiniog. (more…)

Rhyl

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

Now since we were off to see my Mum and Dad in North Wales and Mark always wants to go to Rhyl for it’s …, well, I’m not sure why really, he just does, I finally relented and took a detour on the pretence of visiting Rhuddlan Castle.  Since we have CADW (Welsh Historic Monuments) membership until October we may as well take every opportunity to use our cards even on minor, out of the way, monuments.

East Lancashire Light Railway

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

Since we’re on holiday I’ve decided that we should do something every day this week. Preferably something we wouldn’t ordinarily do, or better still something we haven’t done even though we keep saying we will.  Yesterday it was visiting the IMAX theatre.  Today was the turn of the East Lancashire Light Railway - a trip on the steam train from Ramsbottom.

Chinese State Circus

Saturday, February 3rd, 2007

We went to see the Chinese State Circus, featuring the Shaolin Wu-Shu Warriors and Peking Opera, at the Lowry last night.  After enjoying the Tower Circus in Blackpool so much a few weeks ago I couldn’t resist getting tickets when I saw this advertised.

Blackpool Tower

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Yesterday Mark and I went to visit Blackpool Tower. Mark had never been. It’s only a 45 minute drive to Blackpool at this time of year and there’s no problem parking at all. Although it’s freezing cold it’s a pretty good time of year to visit in many ways.
